This has been a disappointing year for the Democratic Party who lost seats in both the Senate and the House. Perhaps the reason they lost so badly was because they did a poor job of standing up for the people in this country. We need to increase the minimum wage, we need to rebuild our infrastructure, and we need to rebuild our political system by correcting the gerrymandering that is gone on for at least 50 years. You cannot expect people to get out and vote if they don’t really have good choices of candidates. Money should not be the determining factor as to whether a qualified person runs for office. Even here in Western North Carolina, the possibility of running for office hinges on your ability to raise huge sums of money. Candidates for both parties ought to pledge not to spend huge sums of money promoting themselves.
