Wow! If the response to Katie Mae Simpson’s email below is any indication, DFA members are FIRED UP about replacing Susan Collins. Flipping senate seats isn’t easy. We need to give the Maine Democratic Party the resources they need to build capacity now. Please read Katie Mae’s urgent message below — and then support her work to unseat Susan Collins by chipping in $3 today. — Karli Wallace Thompson, Senior Digital Manager, Democracy for America
Susan Collins turned her back on women when she cast her vote for Brett Kavanaugh. We’re holding her accountable, starting NOW.
My name is Katie Mae Simpson, and I am the Executive Director of the Maine Democratic Party.I know better than anyone that even though Collins claims to be a moderate, when it really counts she always fails to show up to support our values. But this vote takes that failure to a whole new level.
Mainers have had enough of Susan Collins. We need your help to fight back. If you want Collins to pay for the vote she took yesterday, chip in $3 now so that the Maine Democratic Party and DFA can take her down in 2020.
This isn’t the first time that DFA has taken on Susan Collins in Maine. In 2014, I was the campaign manager for Shenna Bellows — an awesome progressive candidate who ran a tough campaign against Collins and outperformed all expectations. That year, DFA spent more than $300,000 in our state to try to take Collins down.
Now, after the Kavanaugh vote, the stakes in Maine are even higher. While we’re deeply engaged in electing Democrats this year to serve as a line of defense against Trump and his Supreme Court, we also know from experience that if we’re going to take down Collins, we need to start building the infrastructure to do so immediately. That’s why we’re asking DFA members to step up again.
Let’s finish what we started in 2014. Chip in $3 or more now to help Democracy for America and the Maine Democratic Party build the base we’re going to need to sweep Sen. Collins out of office in 2020.
We can’t let Susan Collins get away with this. Thanks for pitching in today.
