Yesterday, Donald Trump’s Attorney General Bill Barr released his personal summary of the Mueller report to the public. Barr’s four page letter leaves many of our most pressing questions completely unanswered.
But here’s is one thing we do know: Mueller’s report specifically does NOT exonerate Trump when it comes to the crime of obstruction of justice.
Right now, Barr is using his own judgement to claim that there is not enough evidence to move forward with any charges. But as we’ve seen time and time again, Trump’s allies have never been above lying to protect their boss. And Barr has already said on the record that he thinks this entire investigation is “fatally misconceived.”
Republicans are trying to turn this moment into a political victory. But they have absolutely nothing to celebrate.
We must not forget that this investigation has already resulted in indictments or charges against numerous people in Trump’s inner circle, including his former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, his Campaign Chair Paul Manafort, his Deputy Campaign Chair Richard Gates, and his personal attorney Michael Cohen. And we don’t know how the specifics within the Mueller report will reflect on Trump himself.
The House of Representatives voted unanimously to call on Barr to release the entire Mueller report to the public. This isn’t a partisan issue. The American people have been waiting far too long to find out the full results of this special counsel investigation. We deserve to know the truth.
Thanks for taking action now. We can’t let the Trump administration keep us from getting real answers on this.
