“To help my community to fall back in love with our democratic process,” beautiful words from N.C. State Rep. John Ager’s guest commentary in Sunday’s paper. Reps. Ager and Turner and Sen. Terry Van Duyn will be powerful and positive voices in the General Assembly, speaking for the good of us all, upholding values rooted in the democratic process and in the political philosophy we know as democracy. As our representatives in Raleigh, they will remind us that what has happened in the last few years to our voting rights, our rights to health care, our public education system, and our rights to know what government has done to us (not for us), have not been accomplished in the spirit of democracy but have begun to strip us of our democratic rights. They may be members of the minority party but their voices will be loud and clear. Let’s hope they are heard throughout the state, helping to bring us all back to being in love with the democratic process and the role of government to assist all our citizens.
