Life-threatening flooding. Catastrophic winds. We know Hurricane Florence is going to hit hard.
And we know surviving the storm is only the beginning. From Katrina to Maria to Irma, communities like ours are not only the ones hit hardest, but also the ones most often ignored afterward. We’re left without help when we need it most and then pushed out from our homes as we try to pick up the pieces. All while wealthy developers and corporations swoop in, ready to profit off our loss.
If there’s one thing we know from past storms like these, it’s that we’re going to have to fight for the resources we’ll need to get clean water, restore electricity, and rebuild our homes. And to win against the powerful interests waiting in the wings we’re going to need as many people as we can get.
While most of us are getting ready to face one of the most devastating storms of our lifetimes, the Trump Administration and their allies are busy undermining our safety and our rights. In fact, just this week we learned that the Trump Administration has been robbing millions of dollars from FEMA and emergency response services to pay for ICE’s detention and deportation of immigrants instead.
The only way we are going to stop this is by building a groundswell of people power. That means each of us coming together to take action and hold our officials accountable.
