There are many good issues that should be raised during this fall election cycle.
The 1st issue we should be raising is collective bargaining for teachers, firefighters, and policemen. These people have not been paid a decent wage for the last 5 years and need an increase in wages, as well as more say about their working conditions.
The 2nd thing that we should be doing is increasing the number of teachers in our classrooms and at our Community Colleges. We cannot afford to have a generation of young people coming up that are not prepared for the workplace in the 21st century.
The 3rd issue for Democrats this fall is legalizing medical marijuana. Recent polls indicate over 70 per cent of the public support medical marijuana. This issue is even popular with voters over 65 years of age, and this group of voters is one we need to win in November.
The biggest issue this fall should be protecting the advances we have made in health care. The new media has not done an adequate job of explaining the benefits of “Obamacare”. We have to get the word out, regarding current benefits and benefits to come. If we do this, it will be a big win for Democrats.
Finally, about the women: the opposition is bent on depriving women of their hard won reproductive rights. They began by increasing the government’s role in making decisions on abortion and weakening the power of the medical doctor to make decisions with his/her patient. They are progressing to blocking that option, even when medically advisable. Now they are threatening women’s right to contraception. It’s time to stand up for women’s rights and get the government out of medical practice !
