At a town hall last week, Chair of the powerful Energy & Commerce Committee, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) was confronted by NNU volunteers about his lack of support for Medicare for All. His response was staggering: “I’m not sure the public wants change.”1
Rep. Pallone should pull his head out of the sand. According to polls, 70% of people in the United States — including 85% of Democrats — support Medicare for All. That sure seems like a whole lot of people demanding change to me!
We need to send a message to him and his colleagues who continue to ignore the truth. Will you join us?
People often ask me how it’s possible that all these members of Congress can be so consistently wrong on this issue. I’m no mind reader, but I’d bet it has something to do with the fact that Big Pharma PACs gave his campaign nearly $1 million last cycle (and spent more than $283 million on lobbying all of Congress last year).
None of us can outspend these dark money groups, but we can out-organize them. We can show up all over the country — at town halls, rallies, and on social media — and make sure that elected officials like Rep. Pallone are held accountable. That’s why I’m asking you:
Take a moment to sign your name on our petition today and call on Rep. Pallone to support Medicare for All like his constituents demand. Not only that, we’re demanding that Rep. Pallone also call for a Medicare for All hearing in the Energy & Commerce Committee — a key committee of jurisdiction for our bill.
We can’t let these elected officials continue to plug their ears about Medicare for All. The people are ready, and, together, we’ll prove it.
