One of the most common things I hear as I travel our state is that people are sick and tired of illegal robocalls. No one’s immune from them: I get them myself all the time. Even worse is that often, they’re scams. (Yep, they’re even trying to scam the Attorney General.)
This has to stop. That’s why I’ve joined a bipartisan coalition of 51 Attorneys General and 12 telecommunication companies in adopting a brand new set of principles to help us fight them. No single step will end illegal robocalls, but this agreement is a historic step in the right direction.
Twelve of the largest phone companies in the country have pledged to do more to prevent robocalls in the first place, including taking new measures to validate call sources and monitor their networks for suspicious activity. They’ll also help us hold bad actors accountable by cooperating with law enforcement and Attorneys General in every state.
I look forward to getting to work so we can put an end to illegal robocalls once and for all.
