North Carolina House Bill 624 would allow electric monopolies to get a single regulatory approval for a five-year block of annual rate increases, rather than having to approach the Utilities Commission for approval for each rate hike. Consumer, environmental justice and poverty advocates are against it.Use this Action Alert from the Center for Biological Diversity to oppose Bill 624, or simply call or email your state representative and House Speaker Tim Moore and let them know you want them to oppose it.Rep. Experienced activists consistently say that writing a Letter to the Editor (LTE) is one of the most effective ways to sway both our legislators and public opinion. Learn how to do it right! At this month’s General Meeting on Tuesday, May 28, at The Block Off Biltmore we’ll share some tips and show you how it’s done. It will be informal and fun, and you’ll have time to create your LTE right then and there. We’ll provide Action Sheets with background info on issues that need strong LTE’s. If you’d rather write your reps instead, no worries – we’ll also have postcards, stationery, and mailing labels on hand.
We’ve combined our letter-writing drop-ins and monthly meetings on the 4th Tuesday of every month. Come see us for one or both. We start with INDIVISIBLE HAPPY HOUR 5:30-6:00, when we write to our Members of Congress, followed by GENERAL MEETING 6:00-7:00.
TAKE ACTION: A GOOD LTE & THE ERASpeaking of LTE’s, the Asheville Citizens-Times last Friday published one from Indivisible AVL’s own Robin Lively Summers suggesting that a darn good way to honor our mothers for Mothers’ Day would be to give them full legal equality. Read it here.
Take action to support passage of the ERA in North Carolina – which would make our state the 38th and last state to ratify the ERA. What an opportunity to make positive history!
