NC GRASSROOTS COALITIONLast weekend representatives from activist groups all over the state got together for an intense weekend of visioning and planning at Camp New Hope near Chapel Hill. Bunk beds, cabin swings, campfires and ‘smores – the camp experience and natural setting made for a fun and relaxed environment for activists getting down to some serious work. We all left with new contacts, a better understanding of our many different groups, and the outline of a coordinated statewide strategy for winning in 2020. We’ll be launching Indivisible AVL’s part in the plan soon. So stay tuned!
WOMEN’S RIGHTS RALLY – STOP THE BANS
May 22, 5:30 PM, at Pack Square
Across the country, we are seeing a new wave of extreme bans on abortion, stripping away reproductive freedom and representing an all-out assault on abortion access. This is Trump’s anti-choice movement… and it’s terrifying, particularly for women of color and low-income women who are most affected by these bans.
We will show up at Pack Square this Wednesday, May 22, at 5:30 PM to speak out and fight back against this unconstitutional attempt to gut Roe and punish women. Politicians shouldn’t be making decisions best left to women, their families, and their doctors.
Together we say: Stop the bans.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR WORKSHOP – MAY 28 MEETINGA strong, well-written Letter to the Editor is an effective way to influence our legislators and the general public. Come to our May 28 meeting at THE BLOCK off biltmore and learn how to write a good ‘un! Turns out it’s not rocket science – we will suggest some best practices, and then turn you loose to write yours, right there at the meeting. We will have Action Sheets that provide background information on topics that you can choose from. We will also provide postcards, stationery, and mailing labels in case you choose to write your representatives instead.
